I am not sure how it all happened, how it all got started...with my love for leather I mean. But somewhere around 20 years old when I bought my first real leather belt in a craft show, from the first leather smith I had ever met, I understood what it meant to have and buy something real. It was thick and strong and sturdy and most importantly clean and simple. Simply well made.
The purchase was not about the brand, it was about the feel, the look, the color, the texture the elegant simplicity, the honesty of it.
This hand made leather belt outlived almost anything I ever had. The memory of how if felt around my waist and how the creases scars and patina just made it better somehow, around there that's where my love began.
Forward 10 plus years and I began to work with leather. I started by making cards and paper using leather scraps. After much practice I moved to books and eventually bags and belts. Never took a class or course or a lesson in anything related to do with leather.
I just push myself every day to learn and make something new. Love to do better, be better, make the best that I can do. Be the best that I can be. Give my best every moment of every day to every one.
MY PHILOSOPHY
I am now a leather purist not just a leather lover. Just leather pure and simple, is our philosophy when making our leather goods.
HOW OUR BAGS ARE DIFFERENT
First we start out by making bags out of one piece of leather as much as possible. This makes bags stronger and more durable and lighter. No unnecessary gadgetry or lining or glue. Just leather. Bags that are made out of many pieces are more susceptible to breakage and are not as water repellent as bags made out of one piece of leather.
Secondly we sew by hand, so use a thicker leather than machine sewn bags. Thicker leather and thicker thread, and sewn twice over and again when needed in tension areas. Even our zippers are hand sewn.
And best of all we use no machines to sew cut punch anything. No machines, no electricity just human hands. Human hands on a mission to create great honest work, that will last a lifetime with love and peace in NYC.
